Dishwasher filter being cleaned during repair in Jacksonville
Quick answer

Dishwasher repair in Jacksonville usually involves a clogged filter or failed drain pump, a leaking door gasket or pump seal, a scaled spray arm, a failed inlet valve or a heating element. We trace the water path, fix the failed part and run a full cycle to confirm no leaks before leaving.

Follow the water to find the fault

A dishwasher fills through an inlet valve, circulates water through the spray arms with a wash pump, drains it with a drain pump and dries with a heater or condensation. Where the water ends up wrong tells us which part failed: standing water means the drain side, low or no water means the inlet side, and a puddle under the door means a seal, the gasket or overfilling.

Many dishwasher calls start with the filter. Most newer dishwashers have a manual filter in the bottom of the tub that must be cleaned by hand. When it clogs, the dishwasher drains slowly, washes poorly and smells. We clean it and show you how, before replacing any pump.

The jobs this page covers

01

Dishwasher Not Draining

Standing water after a cycle usually comes from a clogged filter, a kinked drain hose, a disposal with a clog or its knockout plug never removed on a new install, or a drain pump that is jammed or failed. We work from the cheapest cause to the most expensive one: filter, hose loop and air gap, disposal connection, then the pump itself. A pump jammed with a piece of glass or a fruit pit can often be cleared without replacing it. If the pump motor has failed, it is a straightforward replacement on most models.

02

Dishwasher Leaking

A leak at the front bottom of the door usually comes from a worn door gasket, a cracked tub, the wrong detergent making suds, or the dishwasher not sitting level. A leak underneath can be the pump seal, a loose hose clamp, the inlet valve or a cracked spray arm hub. We pull the toe kick, run the dishwasher and watch for the source with a light. Bosch E15 and similar leak codes mean water has already reached the base pan, and we find the leak before resetting the float.

Dishes Not Getting Clean

Gritty film, food left on the top rack or spots on glasses point at the spray arms, the filter, the wash pump or the water temperature. Spray arm holes clog with scale and food bits, and in a hard-water area the arms can be half blocked. We clean the arms and filter, check that the wash pump moves enough water, confirm the water reaching the dishwasher is hot enough and check the detergent dispenser opens on time. Most of the time those steps fix it without a major part.

04

Dishwasher Not Drying

Dishwashers dry either with a heating element and a vent, or by condensation on a cool stainless tub with rinse aid. If yours has an element, we test it, the high-limit thermostat and the vent fan. If it relies on condensation, empty rinse aid or a dispenser that does not release it is the most common cause of wet dishes. Plastics never dry as well as glass in condensation models, and we will tell you when wet plastics are normal rather than a failed part.

Hard water and Jacksonville dishwashers

Jacksonville tap water is drawn from the Floridan aquifer through limestone, so most homes here have moderate to hard water. In a dishwasher that shows up as white film on glasses, scale in the spray arm holes and a filter that clogs faster than the manual suggests. After a repair we set the dishwasher's water hardness setting, if it has one, and talk you through rinse aid and a monthly cleaning cycle.

Cost

What dishwasher repair costs

Dishwasher repairs range from a filter cleaning or inlet valve to a pump or control board. The range here is national cost data for dishwasher repairs.

  • Drain or wash pump. Pumps cost more than valves and gaskets.
  • Control board. The most expensive common repair.
  • Panel-ready models. More labor to pull and reinstall.
  • Water damage. Leaks that wet the floor are fixed first, then the source.
