Dryer vent cleaning in Jacksonville, dryer to roof

A dryer that takes two cycles is usually a dryer with a clogged vent. Cleaning the whole run, not just the lint screen, brings drying times back and takes heat stress off the dryer.

  • Wall and roof vents
  • Transition hose replacement
  • Airflow measured

Quick answer

Dryer vent cleaning in Jacksonville means clearing lint from the full duct run between the dryer and the outside hood, replacing crushed or foil transition hoses, and confirming airflow at the exit. It shortens drying times and lowers fire risk, and most homes need it about once a year.

Why the lint screen is not enough

The lint screen catches most of the lint, not all of it. The rest coats the inside of the duct, piles up at elbows and packs against the outside hood flap. Over a year or two the duct narrows until the dryer cannot push enough air, and every load takes longer.

Restricted airflow is also what makes dryers run hot. The high-limit thermostat starts cycling the heat off, the thermal fuse eventually blows, and in the worst case lint near the heater ignites. Cleaning the vent is maintenance for the dryer and a fire-safety job at the same time.

The jobs this page covers

01

Roof and Long-Run Vent Cleaning

Two-story homes and interior laundry rooms often vent through the roof or through 20 feet or more of duct with several elbows. Those runs collect lint fastest and are the hardest to clean yourself. We use rotary brushes and air from the dryer end, reach the roof cap when it is safe to do so, and clear any bird nest or lint mat at the exit. Then we measure the airflow at the outside, so you can see the difference the cleaning made, not just hear that it was done.

Crushed Transition Hose Replacement

The short hose between the dryer and the wall gets crushed every time the dryer is pushed back. Plastic and thin foil hoses also trap lint in their ridges and should not be used at all. We replace them with semi-rigid or rigid metal transition duct, cut to the right length so it does not kink, and secure the joints with clamps or foil tape. On stacked units and tight closets we use a low-profile periscope connector where it fits.

03

Vent Rerouting

Some vents are simply too long, have too many elbows, or were run through a space where they sag and hold lint. When cleaning alone will not bring airflow up, we can reroute the vent to a shorter path, replace sagging flexible duct with rigid pipe, or swap a stuck hood for a better-flowing one. We check the dryer manufacturer's maximum vent length for your model before recommending a reroute, and we explain the options before quoting any of them.

Warning signs

Signs the vent needs cleaning

Two cycles to dry

The most common sign of a restricted vent.

Hot laundry room

Heat is not leaving through the duct.

Flap barely opens

Too little air reaching the hood.

Lint at the hood

Lint escaping around a packed exit.

Lint, long runs and fire risk

Nearly 3,000 clothes dryer fires are reported each year, and failure to clean causes about a third of them. In Jacksonville we see the problem concentrated in two places: long roof vents on two-story homes and short, crushed hoses behind stacked units in small laundry closets. Both clog faster than a straight wall vent, which is why we suggest a yearly cleaning for homes with either setup.

Step by step

How we clean a dryer vent

  1. 1

    Measure first

Airflow at the hood before cleaning.

  2. 2

    Disconnect and brush

Rotary brushes and air through the full run.

  3. 3

    Clear the exit

Hood flap, screen or roof cap cleared.

  4. 4

    Reconnect and measure

New hose if needed, then airflow measured again.

Cost

What dryer vent cleaning costs

Dryer vent cleaning is usually a flat job priced on the length and route of the vent. The range here is national cost data; roof access and hose replacement add to it.

  • Vent length and elbows. Longer runs with more turns take more time.
  • Roof or wall exit. Roof vents add access time.
  • Hose replacement. A new transition duct is a small add-on.
  • Bird nests or blockages. Packed hoods and nests take longer to clear.
$80 to $185Typical national range for dryer vent cleaning
