Oven Repair
Ovens that will not heat, heat unevenly, fail self-clean or throw a code, gas and electric, range and wall ovens.
DetailsA range hood that stops pulling smoke turns every seared steak into a smoke alarm test. Hood repairs are usually a motor, a switch or a control board, and sometimes a duct that needs attention.

Range hood repair in Jacksonville usually means a failed blower motor, a worn fan switch or control board, burned-out lights or a stuck backdraft damper. We test the hood, replace the failed part, and check the duct and damper so the hood actually moves air outside.
Range hoods are simple: a blower, a switch or control, lights and filters, all connected to a duct with a damper at the outside wall or roof. Grease is their enemy. It coats the blower wheel, gums up the motor bearings and clogs the filters, and the hood gets louder and weaker until it stops.
Weak draw is not always the hood's fault. A damper stuck closed, a crushed duct or a duct that was never connected outside will make a perfectly good hood seem useless. We check both halves of the system before replacing parts.
Cost
Range hood repairs are quoted after diagnosis. Lights and switches are small repairs, motors and boards larger, and duct work is priced separately if it is needed.
No flat price over the phone. We price after the diagnosis, part and labor separately, so you can decide before any work starts.
DIY or call
| Task | Safe to try yourself | Call a technician |
|---|---|---|
| Weak draw | Wash or replace the filters | If it is still weak |
| Light out | Replace the bulb with the right type | If the new bulb does not work |
| Fan dead | Check the breaker and the hood's plug | If power is on and nothing runs |
The jobs this page covers
A fan that does not start at all points at the switch or control, the motor or a thermal cutout inside the motor. A fan that hums without turning has a seized motor or a blower wheel jammed with grease. We test the motor windings and the switch, clean the blower wheel when grease is the cause and replace the motor when the bearings or windings have failed. Many hood motors are brand-specific, so we confirm the part number on the motor tag before ordering.

Hood lights fail more often than the fan, and newer hoods use LED modules or halogen bulbs that need the right replacement. When lights and fan both stop, the control board or the touch pad is the likely cause, especially after a power surge. We test the board's outputs before replacing it, and replace a failed touch pad on models where it is separate from the board. Bulb changes are something you can usually do yourself, and we will show you how.
If the fan runs but smoke still drifts into the kitchen, we look at the filters, the blower wheel, the duct and the damper. Saturated mesh filters and a grease-coated wheel can cut airflow sharply. A backdraft damper stuck shut by grease or a crushed flex duct in the attic does the same. We clean or replace filters, clean the wheel, free the damper and inspect what we can reach of the duct run, and tell you if the duct itself needs replacing.
Many homes in Riverside were built between the 1901 fire and the late 1920s, and kitchens that have been updated since often have range hoods added long after the house was framed. Those hoods sometimes vent through long or improvised duct runs, or only recirculate. When a hood in an older home seems weak, we check the duct route as well as the hood.

Fan speeds, lights, controls.
Air actually leaving the house.
Motor, switch, board, lights or a clean blower wheel.
Smoke or tissue test at the filter face.
Hoods we service: Broan, Zephyr, GE, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Bosch, Thermador and Wolf.
FAQ
Grease on the blower wheel, worn motor bearings or a loose wheel. Cleaning sometimes fixes it; worn bearings mean a new motor.
Monthly for mesh filters if you cook often. Charcoal filters on recirculating hoods are replaced, usually every few months.
Clogged filters, a damper stuck closed, a crushed duct or a hood set to recirculate.
Yes, over-the-range microwave vents are covered on our microwave repair page.
